Hi All,
This weekend is the 75th anniversary of the ARRL Sweep Stakes SSB and the
Collegiate Championship.
http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2008/novss.html
http://www.collegiatechampionship.org/
The contest runs from 21:00 UTC Nov 15th till 03:00 UTC Nov 17th.
If I'm correct this is from 4PM Saturday till 10PM Sunday.
I would like for us to participate as a School Club.
According to the ARRL rules this means that only currently enrolled Students
and Staff can operate the station. We really need student and staff
participation but even if you are not a student or staff member please come
and visit us.
Last year we came in 8th overall and we won the Southeastern Division!
If you haven't seen the really nice plaque please come to T6 to admire it.
Tactics:
- Because of our location (SFL) and the current lack of sunspots we should
limit ourselves to 20M and 40M with only a slight glance at 15M and 80M from
time to time.
- Because we are a School Club we are somewhat of a "special attraction" we
should call CQ instead of chasing after other stations. Other hams will spot
us on the DX-Clusters and before you know it you will have a pile-up.
- Try to stick to the General part of the bands (7175-7300 and 14225-14350)
- Accuracy Accuracy Accuracy! Because of the nature of this contest accuracy
is really important.
- Our exchange will be: # S K4FAU 64 SFL
# = QSO number (the logging software will tell you this)
S = School Club
K4FAU = our call ;)
64 = the year FAU ARC first got licensed
SFL = South Florida (our section)
Operating times:
Saturday:
I plan to be at T6 around 3PM setup everything.
All activity usually dies down around midnight / 1AM
Sunday
If possible we should start around 6 or 7 AM.
1PM till about 7PM is usually quieter because of football and other Sunday
stuff.
We should definitely have somebody at T6 Sunday evening from 7PM till the
end of the contest 10PM!
Please email me if you want to help K4FAU get another plaque! If possible
come by on Saturday around 3 PM so I can show you how the logging software
works.
Thanks,
Willem van Dam
